New Book, El Chupacabras, on the Cashiers StoryWalk (r)

Venue: StoryWalk® along the Ramble in the Village Green
The Village Green and Vision Cashiers announce the installation of a new book on the StoryWalk® along the Cashiers Ramble in the Village Green. The book, El Chupacabras, is based on a favorite folktale in South American culture.
The author of the book, Adam Rubin, employs an innovative technique to promote learning to read in both English and Spanish. He mixes both languages in each sentence, followed by a repetition of the sentence the other way around. In essence, each sentence in the pair mirrors the other. The book is easy to follow and before the reader knows it, he/she is reading each language seamlessly.
The story is about a creature called the Chupacabras, which translates to goat sucker. Legend holds that El Chupacabras is a fearsome beast, but as the story unfolds, the reader learns that reputation does not always match reality. Clara and her farmer father Hector tend their herd of goats together. One day, they discover one of the goats is as flat as a tortilla. They immediately think of El Chupacabras. Fearfully, Clara enters the woods to get a glimpse of the goat sucker. He turns out to be a mild almost agreeable character and even helps them solve a problem with the goats. They reside peacefully side by side.
The bright and colorful illustrations by Crash McCreery make it fun to follow along. Each page includes activities that anyone, any age can enjoy. The first page can be found near the Village Play, with subsequent pages following the Ramble path to the Post Office parking area.
